Under the Ensign of the Rising Sun A Story of the RussoJapanese War Harry Collingwood Books

Written in the first person of a 19 years old, it sounded at times as written indeed by a lad of that age, although from times when younger people were still able to express themselves in a proper English with articulated, but closed, sentences.
The victory of Admiral Togo at Tsushima is quite famous, and Admiral Nagumo is said to have raised Admiral Togo's own battle flag aboard Akagi during the militarily successful, and historically disastrous for his own country, attack on Pearl Harbour.
The story of the young British official commanding Japanese warships is quite bemusing. If historically true (I must investigate), it is quite interesting; if only the works of fiction, it is well imagined.

Under the Ensign of the Rising Sun A Story of the RussoJapanese War Harry Collingwood Books Reviews

Very Good and enjoyable reading. Most war stories have lots of profanity and this did not! I believe it reflected the language of it time very well.
An interesting look at a war that doesn't get much attention, in the US anyway. An engrossing story that moves along quickly, but sometimes the bias of the author is a bit much.
Very detailed novel about the Japanese naval attacks/ blockade on Port Arthur against the Russians in the Russo-Japanese War. People interested in modern naval tactics and daily life will like this book alot.
I liked it. I was wanting a light introduction to the Russo-Japanese War and this fit the bill.
Interesting historical fiction of a setting unfamiliar to most people. The hero is portrayed as something of a superman, so it lacks believability. Very good period and technical content makes it enjoyable for all ages, but best for teens.
Not bad.
This book will not appeal to strict historians. It is a fictional account of the Russo-Japanese war but it provides some background about the period, the war itself and several of the battles that we history buffs revel in. It is a good representation of the fictional writing of the time and while probably considered boring by today's standards it was a pretty good tail for that time.
