Out of the Past Heritage Time Travel Romance Series Book 1 edition by Dana Roquet Romance eBooks
Out Of The Past is like an old friend...you enjoy every moment spent with the characters and miss them horribly when the end arrives. I loved the way Ms Roquet presented the time travel element of the story. Torie may find herself in an unfamiliar time period, but the people and the place she is in, yes, in, is very familiar. This book is a romance on several layers. Not only does the character go into the past, she lives her life while in the past in a way she never thought possible. What an imagination Ms Roquet has. The settings are so real and vivid, I could smell the "oldness" of the piano as well as the fresh paint on the walls. If you want a story that will have you anxious to turn the pages while dreading the time when the story will end, this is a must read.Product details

Out of the Past Heritage Time Travel Romance Series Book 1 edition by Dana Roquet Romance eBooks Reviews
As reviewer 100, I am excited to give this book 5 stars. It was a great story. When I read time travel I figured it would be about a character going back in time to discover her life and lover in the past. However, I was very surprised at how this one turned out. do you remember the TV show Quantum Leap? The main character would wake up in a different place, different time, and different character. Inside he was himself but his outward appearance would be the character he was for that episode.
The heroine is an accomplished romance writer that has made it big. she is also a genealogy buff and has done extensive work on her family tree. Now that she has the money she needs she buys the old homestead and sets out to restore it to it's original condition complete with furnishings of that time. Her contractor is a young sexy guy that does restorations and is somewhat of a history buff himself. She is in a relationship so he is sort of off limits but she enjoys his company as they restore the house and hit the flea markets for furnishings.
Once the house is finished she moves in. Now the fun starts. At night when she falls asleep she goes back in time and is in the body of the character that she is experiencing that night. She is always with her family and always a female. Can you imagine how exciting that would be? you go back 100 years and see how your great, great, great grand parent lived? You could get facts and stories right from the people that lived them. What fun that would be. But then things happen. The story is so good you can hardly put this book down. I read until 2 a.m. and had to quit because my eyes were blurring. But I didn't want to stop reading and see what was going to happen next. This book had mystery, romance, some sexy scenes, heartache and sadness. It had it all and was really good.
It is really, really, good and I definitely recommend it.
I found the author to be very good at describing places and people, and the actions fit the personalities. I chose the book because the story involved genealogy, one of my own interests, and I much prefer that topic to the time travel and the steamy romance also included in this book.
When I bought the book, I made a note that the author is a distant cousin of mine. However, I neglected to note our common ancestor if I knew who he/she was at that time. I kept hoping the storyline would reveal to me that ancestor, but I am still wondering.
There were only a few editing errors that I noticed, and I consider that very good.
I have mixed feelings about Out of the Past by Dana Roquet. Going in, I was under the impression that this was a time travel romance—and it both was and wasn’t. I’d expected maybe your typical endearing romance with some steamy sex and some time travel thrown in to mess things up for the characters, but that isn’t what I got. Instead, I got a story that revolved mostly around dreams of the past heritage of two families with a little bit of romance, and very little time travel involved at all.
Technically speaking, the story was decently written. The plot was new and interesting. I liked the characters, and with a few small exceptions for some flowery writing, the narrative was clean and easy to read. There were no obvious spelling mistakes, incorrect punctuation or grammar, and the sentence structures flowed well.
Unfortunately, the pace was also painfully slow. The detail lever was a bit distracting at times, often with the characters rambling on for two or three pages at a time about the histories of certain objects, complicated genealogical lines, and endless lists of replaced historical artifacts. Frankly, I was bored when the main character droned on about the history of her house and family. I had expected the book to be all about the romance and time travel but soon discovered that it had little to do with either. The story was more often about the love of the character’s restoration work and historical research, and I just wasn’t interested.
To make matters worse, the time travel wasn’t really time travel at all, and as far as I could tell, served no purpose in the plot. The characters didn’t learn anything or solve any problems by traveling (I use this term lightly) into the past. The most it did was fill in some blanks on the family tree and spur on the main character’s shopping sprees for antiques for her newly refurbished historical home.
The romance itself was a bit watered down, and in a way, almost too perfect. There was little to no tension between the couple and they never made any mistakes. The male lead said the right things at the right time, and overall, it came across as bland and contrived.
In the end, I had to give the book a 3-star rating. It wasn’t a bad book, but it wasn’t great either. I wasn’t engaged by the story or characters. Instead, it felt like a very long, drawn-out history lesson. It just wasn’t my idea of a gripping romance, and not what I thought I was going to be reading when I picked it up.
